We are who are and that is the most beautiful thing in the world. I hope that these quotes and reflections on transparency and authenticity will inspire you to celebrate your uniqueness.
This week something interesting happened that made me change my initial plans for today’s reflections. We live in “modern times” when it seems that everything is allowed. Still, I have frequently the impression that all this so-called freedom does not release us from old paradigms.

Look at my website for instance. Except for the fact that I do not share my cat on it, it could not be clearer reflection of who I am.
The Fit Me
I love being physically active. Not being able to go for a run or lifting weights has been the hardest part of my surgery recovery. It feels really weird! I am already putting together my moving forward plan after I finish my from couch to 15 minutes walk. I am looking forward getting sore again with my mates from the gym and CrossFit. I really do.
The Mindful Me
But I also have a Zen side in me. It is mostly hidden very deep inside. I can understand that one finds it hard to picture a battery bunny like me meditating or doing Reiki. Still, it is also me. And adding yoga to my routine is something I would love to do as well. This side of me is what gives me balance and support from within. It is what shuts the noise and disturbance from outside and allows me to center my thoughts and determine my priorities in life.

The Geek me
For some, the combination of (hardcore) fitness and mindfulness also sound fishy. Now imagine the reactions when they find out there is a strong geek side on this one! When they only know me superficially, I see their eyes rolling in all directions as if their inner systems were overloaded: too much information. No worries, I can understand the despair. This is not the way people expect things to be. But guess what? I am as real as it gets. Give me some new gadget or let me be with my MacBooks and I have a great time. And I am not even going to start about my nerdy jokes…

And I am not an exception
And it gets even better because I am not alone. Not only we are many there are others who combine the imaginable to fulfill their souls. But why people still react the way they do?
The truth is that we are still prisoners of our misconceptions and limitations. Standards enslave our way of living and making decisions much more than we want to assume. The need of fitting in at any cost does not leave room for creativity or spontaneity. We start labelling ourselves according to the expectations of others, denying who we really are without realizing it.
In the beginning, breaking free from the expectations imposed on us is scary. Some people fear they will be left alone, that they will lose their tribe, their connections. Things may indeed change around you, but you will see that it is a change for better. Like me, you will also find twin souls and the only thing you may regret is not taking this step before.
