How I Can Help You In Your Personal Improvement

How I Can Help You In Your Personal Improvement

With only some days away from my blogiversary, there is no better time to reassess and reorganize things.

On August 15, 2015 Debbie in Shape turns one year-old as a self-hosted blog. From all my previous experiences as a blogger, this has been by far the one I am proudest of.

When I created the blog back in 2012, I just wanted to share my journey back to fit. The day of my first entry was September 6th, 2012.

Then, I was feeling more confident about my progress towards my first Bikini competition. I already knew I had the brain tumor, but I was living my life as normal as I could.

On Blogger, I was irregular. After joining a team to get ready for competitions, I had almost no free time. I was training twice a day and working full-time.

My blog stayed pretty much dead until April 2014 when I decided to go self-hosted. So I started giving a little bit more form to my content.

Interesting enough, it was not after surgery last April that it truly started to take off. Unfortunately, I must admit I am the only one to blame here.

I did not know exactly what I was supposed to do (besides writing, of course). I did not even have the time to do some research. I could not afford (time and money) to join any events. I was stuck.

Later on, I did start reading about blogging in my free time, but it was not enough. The thing about knowledge is that it has little value if not put into practice.

To my defense, even though doctors claim my tumor was too small to cause any symptoms, things were changing. Focusing required way much more energy than normal, sleep became even worse and tiredness was a constant whether I laid low or lived normally.

Anyways, after getting home from hospital, I did not have much energy whatsoever. Yet, I had all the time in the world when I was not taking long naps in the couch. My MacBooks made me company.

My boyfriend stayed home with me for a whole month and it was a blessing. I do not know what would have been of me without him (then and now). But I needed something to keep me sane while my body was resting.

I adore reading and writing. It kept me busy while all the rest was fading away. I could write a post splitting it into short sessions throughout the day. And thanks to content curation, I could maintain all my social media alive with as little as a 30-minute effort a day.

Debbie in Shape’s statement.

Why am I tell you all that?

Debbie in Shape is “The Fitness Lifestyle of a Workaholic and Planning Geek”. But what does it have to do with you? What difference does my lifestyle make in your life? What is in it for you?

On my About page I have a statement that clarifies my ultimate goal:

And that is what Debbie in Shape is all about: showing YOU tools you can use to improve your health, well-being and achieve your goals.

What does it mean to you?

While my way of life is my own, I have learned a lot through my experiences and (formal) studies. I want to use this knowledge to guide you in your Personal Improvement.

The content shared on Debbie in Shape is already all about Personal Improvement. The difference is that instead of keeping my statement only on my About page, I am reinforcing my deal with you.

What will happen going forward?

In short, there are more changes coming your way…

I am not going to go in details about changes on the website today. I do not have a deadline for them yet. You will notice them within the next days or weeks though.

What starts already as of this post is the schedule on fixed days of the week:

  • Monday: Fitness
  • Wednesday: Geek
  • Friday: Lifestyle

The names of these categories will be changed to reflect their meaning better. Yet, there will be little to no change in their content itself.

There will also be no changes related to:

  • Tip Tuesday link party Tip Tuesday (weekly)
  • Shout Out Saturday (monthly)
  • 2015 Commitments (first day of the month)

Why are these changes necessary?

Back in 2012, Debbie in Shape was born as a contest prep blog. Throughout the years, my perception of Fitness has changed a lot. I do not think of it only as looks and exercises. It has become about the holistic dimension of it.

I will still write about exercises to help you get and stay fit for life. But I also want to guide you through tips on how to:

  • be more productive
  • make time to work out
  • eat according to your goals
  • find balance in life

What is Debbie in Shape goal then?

I love helping people and I will be focusing more on it. I do not know everything. But I am sure I can help you accomplish more in fitness, lifestyle and productivity.

Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a busy working woman or a college student. I am here to help you be “fitter” without added stress.

I want you to find time for yourself and your beloved ones. I want you to have more energy through exercising, to enjoy wellness and to achieve success.

I want you to:

Like yourself

Because you are good enough as you are now. You can and should always seek to get better, but remember that you are already doing a great job!

Like what you do

As in the quote of Confucius: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Discover and develop your talents so that you can shine.

Like how you do it

There are as many ways to accomplish dreams as there are individuals. Thanks to our uniqueness, each one of us holds the secret a better self.
