It’s not like we’re that interested in the life of the writers, but to build a longer connection than simply bumping into someone’s page, it is only human nature to look for something more.

It is through them that readers get to know the mind(s) behind the content they are browsing. If they simply bumped into your site after doing some Googling, unless you have an irresistible “About Me” page, chances are they will never come back.

So if your goal is to build a community and strengthen your brand, you will have to catch your visitor’s attention with something more. 

Marketers promote different templates of how irresistible “About Me” pages should look like. You might also find it useful to check your favorite bloggers. It’s up to you to make your research as detailed as you want.

However, no matter how deep you want to go in your quest, these five easy steps will put you in the right direction to create an unforgettable first impression about you and your content. Here they are:

  3. Establish your purpose

1. Create a Connection

We all love to welcome new visitors to our pages, but we love even more when passers-by become regulars and make usage of the services and products we offer.

This growth shows that our efforts are taking the right direction, and our task as influencers and subject matter experts is well performed. 

Like in any other relationship, a connection is created based on how positive the first impression was. 

Give your public something to help them get closer to you and your content.

One way to strengthen connections is by sharing more about ourselves.

How much you want to make public is up to you, but understanding the path followed by the writer helps the reader visualize the person behind the content.

If one has never struggled with their weight, for example, chances are they won’t entirely understand what their customers go through when under pressure.

When you, however, have gone through both situations, you have an amount of experience that no certification can ever grant.

Such information will bring others closer to you.

3. Establish Your Purpose

Unless you own a brand new site, it is almost impossible for someone to get a grasp of your entire content without spending endless hours on your site.

Let’s face it: no one has time for that.

Therefore, make sure you summarize the goal of your blog on your “About Me” page:

  • What is your blog about?
  • Why did you choose to write on certain topics?
  • How do they come together?
  • How does the information provided help your reader with their problems?
  • Why should they stay longer and come back for more? 

Let them know your purpose, your mission.

No matter how much text you have on your “About Me” page, make sure it looks as interesting as its content. 

Add images, pictures, titles, and links to create some variation.

Remember they have to make sense in the context presented.

If you are not mentioning anything about your prom date, even if you love your picture in your gown, it’ll hardly fit in the big picture (not impossible though depending on your level of creativity).

The hint about visuals is to be coherent with your brand!

Think for a moment. What would you like your readers to do most once they land on your website? Would you like them to:

  • Buy your product(s)?
  • Acquire a service?
  • Sign up for your newsletter?
  • Answer a survey?

Your CTA, or Call-To-Action should be clear, consistent and easy to find.

Even if you think you have an irresistible “About Me” page right now, do not be afraid to update it accordingly:

  • Do you want to promote a new service? Update your call to action!
  • Did one of your posts go viral? Mention it!
  • Did you start working with a brand? Share information about it!
  • Did you go through a rebranding? Review your layout!

If you have information that helps corroborate the message you are trying to convey, it needs to be included in your introduction.
